If you follow me on Instagram (and if you don’t, let’s make it happen, k?), you know that last week I made the YUGE (not huge, but YUGE!) announcement that I will be speaking on the virtual TEDxWomen stage on November 21st!
My topic is on the Superwoman complex and how it shows up in our life, love, and leadership, and all the things that come with it. As with anything else, it’s hard to explore a topic like this without looking at your own life and the nuances that come with it. Add in a layer of Quarantine and you’ve got yourself a full-out Think & Cry fest!
I also began to think about this on a broader scale for all leaders. Just like Superwomen don’t get a chance to show vulnerability, most times leaders don’t either. For some reason, in our client’s or team’s minds, they assume that we are able to tap into this catatonic state where we feel no emotion and are able to take a lickin’ and keep on tickin’! It’s partly our own fault because most of us don’t reveal much of our humanness in our leadership style, but that’s a different post for another day!
So because this is a safe place and the SECRET life of leaders, I know you have bad days. I know there are days you want to throw in the towel and never go back to work. Circumstances when you hear and read things that others say about you that hurt your feelings. Moments when you are lost and overwhelmed and pulled a million ways and don’t know which way to go. How do I know? Because I have those days, too.
But I’ve found 3 hacks that work for me on the days where I feel like everything I touch crumbles beneath my fingers. They work wonders for me… Feel free to give them a shot!
💫Find a team/staff/client message/email/post that specifically tells you how much they love you and your work. Read it over and over (and over) again until you have filled that nasty hole that was created by the bad day.
💫Start stockpiling those sweet love notes from your team or clients in one place (like a Google Drive folder), and have it easily accessible when you’re needing a pick-me-up. There is NOTHING better than knowing that others value you for your amazing work.
💫Trust the fact that some folks aren’t for you and that others are 100% the perfect fit for you. When you find those perfect fits, let them push you to continue your work and produce quality pieces for them. You can’t let them down, so pick yourself up and get back to work! They NEED you!
Basically, find some time to do something that makes YOU feel good. Something that uplifts your spirits and helps restore your self-value. In the end, a leader is only as good to others as they are to themselves so be EXTRA good to yourself, friend.
What tips do you have for tough days? Share below or send me a message and let me know. I’d love to hear from you!
